When Things Fall Apart:

Heart Advice for Difficult Times

TRAINING, ADMIN/DEVELOPMENT

Nicole Kilgos, OTR/L

Nicole is a registered and licensed occupational therapist since 1995. She received her occupational therapy degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago. As an OT, she’s worked in a variety of settings including mental health, pediatrics, adult cancer care and, holding a special place in her heart, palliative care and hospice. She has completed extensive training internationally in manual therapies which have served her as both an OT and, at one time, as a practicing somatic therapist. Her current professional interest includes sensory modulation in adults as a tool for wellness and stress management in the general population, as well as for self regulation in adult autism, neurodivergence, and an array of mental health conditions. She has lived experience with chronic illness, neurodivergence, and a highly sensitive nervous system, and is always being reminded how vital self care and self regulation are to both her physical and emotional wellness. She has also learned how, sometimes, we need to let our lives fall apart to learn to live in a way that is more tender and true to our unique selves.

When not working, Nicole most prefers to be in the quietude of natural spaces, whether that is her vegetable & flower gardens or sitting by the lake listening to the bird songs, watching the diamond-like sparkles as they dance on the water, and feeling the silence of the natural world seep into her bones.

She currently lives in Bellingham, Washington with her long time life partner and a very gentle & sweet standard poodle, Rowan.

Nicole is the “go-to” person for any administrative, billing, or scheduling needs at SOUND Life Recovery.

“It takes courage to accept life fully, to say yes to our life, yes to our karma, yes to our mind, emotions and whatever else unfolds. This is the beginning of courage. Courage is the fundamental openness to face even the hardest truths. It makes room for all the pain, joy, irony, and mystery that life provides.”
